the veneering process

Quite often a sheet of highly figured exotic veneer will be wavy and have a significant amount of curl. The veneer must be flatten before use

The flattening process involves coating the veneer with a solution glycerine, glue and water that will weaken the cell structure of the veneer and allow flattening without cracking

After allowing the veneer to soak in the solution for a few minutes the veneer is backed with sheets of paper and placed between two boards and placed into a vacuum veneer press. The paper is replaced every few hours as the veneer dries and flattens in the press

The veneer remains in the press for several days. When the veneer is removed from the press the veneer is flat and ready to be glued to a panel
